Rising unemployment worrisome

Young Nigerians have decried the rising unemployment rate of 2.7 per cent as the country clocks 60 years.

Director-General of Nigeria Young Farmers Network, Mr Promise Amahah, said in Abuja that Nigeria’s rising debt profile and capital flight showed the urgency to take in the youth toward reversing the country’s economic downturn.

Mr Amahah said young people must begin to see agriculture as a business with potential to create wealth.

He said young Nigerians are suffering under rising unemployment and poverty and that his Network plans a rally for October 1 in Abuja to draw the attention of young people on wealth creation through different value chains of agriculture.

He said the theme of the rally is, ‘60 Years Later, Yes We Can’.

The expert said the Network intends to bridge the knowledge gap in funding, policy information and other impediments to wealth creation by young people.
